LTE stick mode and text messages

Hi,

I use a Huawei E3372 LTE stick that shows up as 12d1:14dc in lsusb and presents the network-interface eth2.

This stick can run in several modes, I think the mode I currently run it in is called hilink-mode and in this mode there is no /dev/ttyUSB* device.

The stick works (for internet access) but I would like to access text messages that are sent to the sim-card I use in the stick.

My question: Is it possible to access text-messages in this mode at all (and if so how would you do it) or would I have to use another mode if I wanted to have both internet access and access to the text messages?

Many thanks!

No idea about Hilink, but searching the forum for "usb sms" should do answer the sms part.

I did search the forum but could not find an answer (it probably comes as a surprise but that's why I am asking).

I know there is smstool3 for sms but it seems (at least to me) you would need the /dev/USBtty device so it seems that in this mode I cannot use it - but then maybe you can or maybe there is another tool.

I don't expect all the details to be provided, I simply don't want to waste time.

You should be able to access your SMS messages through one of the tty's.

I don't see how this answers my question...

And (for the 3rd time now): In this mode I do NOT have the /dev/ttyUSB* devices that feature in all the example configs.

I simply don't want to waste time trying to make something work that quite posssibly cannot work.

My guess is that I have to use the modem-mode (or whatever it is called) but I don't know.

So all I am asking is for is a clear yes/no statement if access to the sms is possible at all in hilink-mode or not.

Running in Ethernet mode where the only UI for the modem is its web page, you should be able to operate SMS manually or with scripts like these:

This is not an OpenWrt package.

The stick is currently in HiLink mode. This means that its SMS functionality should be available via http://192.168.8.1/.

Thanks, that seems to be the way to do it (found it myself with google after posting here).

For hilink see api: https://www.bez-kabli.pl/viewtopic.php?t=42168 (use google translator)

This is very useful, however with my device I am getting errors no matter what I try (I get an xml-response with error-code 125002).

The link mentions that some versions require a token "to verify the session" - do you happen to know how to obtain that?

See https://stackoverflow.com/questions/58195192/error-125002-while-trying-to-read-messages-from-huawei-modem

Thanks a lot.
