Looking for mt76 device

hi, i'm looking for a new toy, i don't have any mt76 device. i found a netgear r6260 for 40 euro, but i'm worry because this have only 128 mb of ram. is this a good choise compared to my horrible zyxel 6617?
to be clear i need a device that will do client wds on 5ghz and a simple access point on 2.4 ghz

As mt76(ramip) devices are belate to updateing kernel version, I doubt if it will see next version after 19.07) update.

so i don't understad! mwlwifi are abandoned i have a wrt 3200 working great, mt76 will be obsolete soon, i don't like ath10k, for now, mabie in ten years i'll love it. so what's the future of openwrt, i mean open driver, like ath9k.

19.07 final version isn't even out yet. It's gonna take quite a while before the next major version will be branched, and I'm sure ramips will be updated to the 4.19 kernel before that. It's quite a popular target.

anyway back in topic, will 128 mb ram good for dual band operation with mt76?

I don't have the Netgear r6260 myself, but the dir-860l that I am using also has 128mb RAM and is working fine for me.

No problem with 128MB. Even 64MB RAM work.

I own two R6260 and they are working great. MT7621 is a very good CPU in this price range (2 cores, 4 threads) and 128 MB is more than enough.
For 40 euro is a very good router.
Moreover, it has the MT7615 that's actively developed in the mt76 GitHub.

i got it, just need wait for the shipping, do you know how flash it?

Works for R6260, R6350 & R6850:

thanks, i see in the snapshot even an initram image, is that just for try it?

The initram image are not explicit defined for this three devices [0].
But i think you can only boot this image from a serial console from u-boot without writing it to nand, so no real advantage over flashing the persistent kernel and rootfs.

Flash factory firmware via browser .Make sure you use master branch or You won't be able to enjoy its perks . Also mind there is "closed source " radio driver mt7615 5.0.2 or 5.0.3 that work pretty good with that router. I have mixed experience with mt7615e driver . But with closed source driver I can wait to mt76 mature enough

mwlwifi happens to be totally broken with WPA3.

Monitor mode is also totally broken. packet injection oddly enough works.

No idea if NXP will continue development of it. I doubt it.

i know, but it can stay up forever on 5ghz, the other device ath10k cannot stay up for a week.
i hope one day i'll wake up and see a new ath9k for 5 ghz ac, lol, but that is just fantasy.

My understanding of these wifi chips with firmware is that they implement as much as they can in firmware for power saving for mobile devices.

ath10k would need to be replaced with ath10k-ct as that is more stable.

hello i flashed it with factory.img and than sysupgrade, i installed last snapshot, the device is working good for now. the only strange thing is that in client mode on 5ghz, it comunicate with my wrt 3200 acm 20/40 mhz and sometimes just for a second at 80 mhz. is this a know problem on 5ghz radio? anyway i'm really happy with it.
so rx rate is 40/54 mbit/s
tx rate is the same but sometime i see 900 mbit/s
also the wrt 3200 acm is on channel 100 doing access point wds

Have you found the mt76 device you were looking for?
If yes, which one?

sorry if i was not clear, but here i was talking about netgear r6260.
