Looking for a router 5x Gigabit or 5x 10GBASE-T

Hi,

I was using Mikrotik router, but the mentality of this company is totally not aligned with FOSS, free speech, freedom of users...

So I'll trash all that crap...

Now I'm looking for a good router that match (or close to those requirements)

  • >= 5ports / 1 GigE ( or 10GBASE-T1 if price are reasonable... )

  • [ FLOSS ]

  • Either no WiFi or can be fully deactivated ( radio off )

  • simple and small form factor.

  • Widely supported by the OpenWrt community..

Thanks.

where are you located ? EU ? US ? ... ?

What did they do to alienate you? Just curious.

x86_64, Intel N100/ N97, 4* dedicated 2.5GBASE-T starts around 120-250 EUR.
10 GBit/s is possible, but more expensive, both at purchase time as well as power consumption (as well as some fan noise).

Some options:

All-in-one router: GL.iNet GL-MT6000, ASUS TUF-AX6000 or ZyXEL T-56
Mini PC router: CWWK with 6x2.5G
Thin Client (2nd hand): Lenovo M920q 8500T (or the somewhat bigger HP T740) - with 4x 1GbE or 4x 2.5 GbE PCIe add-on card (search beforehand which cards fit)

Maybe try a beefier x86 and a 4 port intel x710 PCIe NIC... these can occasiobally be gotten 2nd hand, but will still be pricy.

Lanner NCA-1010B's are $25 on US eBay, only 3 ports, but you can always add a switch.

Don't directly trash your existing devices: Maybe some of them can be flashed with Openwrt? Have your checked that already?

You always can buy mikrotik routerboard rb5009 and flash it with openwrt

I don't care if solution is opensoruce since i want best performance i can get. That's why i like configuring by winbox, i can see all configuration what i need and it from incestor side also, yes i do it for money, never seen hw with openwrt in industry etc.

My answer should be at least 10 characters....

EU

New T-56 from wifilinks in NL, two 2.5GbE ports, three 1GbE.
it's regular sized wifi router, it'll fit a rack though, it's flat without antennas.

Or used Fujitsu S920 + quad port NIC.

Both are around 50€ + shipping.

simple and small form factor.

Meaning a basic square, rectangle, shape ( like to go in a rack.. )

Thanks @ed8 ,

  • GL.iNet GL-MT6000
seem not easy available in EU ( and the shape is not what I'm looking for ) but otherwise seem nice !

  • ASUS TUF-AX6000
it seem I can get my hands on it ~140€ , shape also not exactly what I need

  • ZyXEL T-56
I've found nothing under that refrence but I've found Zyxel (GS1900-24E) V3, but it seem it's just a switch so I don't if it will be hable to act as a router ? ( layer 3 ) ?

  • CWWK with 6x2.5G
Do you have the product number or link I dont find it on their website.

  • Lenovo M920q 8500T
    out of my budget...

you should be able to find it on Amazon.

same price as the GL-MT6000, but you should go with the GL.

only one shop selling it, you've already been told where/who....

This: https://cwwk.net/collections/frontpage/products/6-lan-firewall-appliance-2-5g-router-12th-gen-intel-i3-n305-n100-ddr5-2-nvme-2-sata3-0-fanless-mini-pc-esxi-proxmox-host

A budget was not mentioned before - what is your budget?

Wooaaa ! I like it !

This will be most certainly for my next setup ! love it.

for VLANs via a switch, it needs to be a smart one.

I'd probably put a dumb (or smart) 2.5GbE switch between the PC and the NAS, the rest hooked up via the T-56.

Thank you @frollic

So the first diagram should work with OpenWRT ? (I mean for the main computer to access the server on another vlan ?)

they should both work, AFAIK.
