Linux support for Watchguard T-70

Spent some time "vibe hacking" with my AI agent taking a look at the WG T-70 x86 motherboard (I had an old unit sitting around collecting dust). I noticed online that there are issues with:

  1. Getting the LEDs to work
  2. Getting the dedicated NIC ports 3-7 operational without resorting to a physical MB modification (cutting a resister trace).

Surprisingly, my agent was able to solve both issues!

Solution:

  1. LED service that gives control over all 5 of the additional LEDs: ATTN, STATUS, MODE, and FAILOVER. Power is hardwired and doesn't require any GPIO control to enable.

  2. Independent control over NIC ports 3-7 as discrete controllable ports (VLAN, DHCP, etc.). POE is also enabled and there's a small script added that polls the POE hardware controller for voltage status, etc.

Both work without any physical modifications to the motherboard OR requirements from WG original source/driver files. Nothing was taken directly from WG source files. Developed and tested on: Ubuntu Server 26.04 LTS (nothing else installed outside of basic updates, etc.)

Public repo (v1.0.0) is here:

hardware specific details summarized here:

I've tested it as much as I can on my own box but I'd love it if anybody else wants to take a crack at it and let me know the results.

I hope this helps anybody still kicking around with this hardware and I would appreciate any feedback!

Someone else has done something similar for the leds. Have a look over here:

We've never had the switch working though.
