If I want to set up/use the image builder.
Does it matter if I use a Debian or Ubuntu system in a virtualbox system?
Does it matter if I use a Server or Desktop version?
Neither do matter.

if you use vbox... definitely assign a few cpu if possible... can be a little slow if you are used to a native machine... ( did not try with multiple cores for the vm tho' )

Yes I noticed this. 12 cores available on the big computer so vbox can borrow some😄
