I have WRT3200ACM and I'm planning to buy GL.iNet GL-MT6000. Please help me which one is better. And is it worth changing. Best regards
Better based on what parameters ?
Wifi is def better on the gl.inet.
I would like to improve the range and speed of wifi
Then it's a good choice.
Hello,
I registered on the forum after seeing this topic.
I waited for fiber at home for 4 years with a temporary 4g router, and finally I am connected to a real connection!
I took out this good old Linksys Wrt3200AC (recovered a few years ago) and I had to install a new firmware to have access to the configuration of an IPv6 address in SLAAC to keep the TV services, the objective being to switch the operator box to Bridge (Free being the only one in France to allow this on its modem/routers) and to use the Linksys to route my personal network..
This function is not in the original firmware..So let's go to the forums, quick reading (too much), DD-Wrt seems to be less of a gas factory, simpler than OpenWrt..Come on, I'll install...
I haven't solved my TV player problem with IPv6 in SLAAC, but I'm a beginner, and this point is not the most important..
The Ethernet network works very well (nothing to do with the 4G box!) My network is mostly in 1Gbps (router, switch, some end cables) and I am between 0.8 and 0.9 Gbps - The modem operator provides 2.5 Gbps by the Wan port.
But then the wifi..it's a horror!! So yes, I was too fast, I went to the DD-Wrt site, I loaded the version corresponding to my router..and in fact no, it was necessary to go to the forums to find the right version number, and start tinkering in all directions, find pinned pages of the forums that explain that the wiki is obsolete..
I then took a look at OpenWrt for the firmware of this router..well, even if the problems seem the same (wifi driver on Marvell chip), at least the doc is clean and up to date..I don't know if the problems are recurrent with OpenWrt, but if it is the case, I'm not going to bother with that. I give it to a foster family for good care!
But suddenly, I don't know if I continue with this LinkSys router with OpenWrt, or if I go for a recent router with good wifi (basically the need is 10/12 m max, with a wall either made of wood or concrete blocks, but nothing crazy, the house is not 250m2..) -
The MT6000 has the advantage of being under openWrt, that it can be updated to stable versions, that the manufacturer plans to do so in the coming weeks/months with its own firmware, that it has Wifi 6, a 2.5Gbps port..
My actual use will always be below the capacities, the peripherals in the house are quite old..my mac is 10 years old, our phones are 5 years old..but I have a recent computer that is in wifi 6..Might as well be prepared for the future in a sustainable way, right?
What do you think?
You are correct, since there is no more driver update for this model, it is what it is now, however the cable connectivity side is still pretty fast.
Yes now this device is supported and very good capability (but not very cheap), since I don't know which country you are in so I cannot recommend more to you, according to your usage probably you can get a cheaper one.
Hi,
I’ m in France. I see this router at 149€ in Amazon..There are a lot of more expensive router, and there less expensive too..
For the moment, i just need administrate a simple network, with a Nas, a printer, a old mac mini under the tv use like a media center, a printer..and this tv box player that need a special configuration with an ipv6 Ith Slaac…All my materiel is about ten year…un old router can be befficient,. But i know that i need to change this materiel in the future, and i think, if i bought a router, that i will be ready for actual materiel standard.
If you have other recommandation, i can ear !
A few days ago, the vendor own shop
https://store-eu.gl-inet.com/collections/home-routers had it for 99€ + tax + shipping (so around 115€, but currently out of stock).
And also a few days ago, Amazon.de had it also for 115€ including tax and shipping during prime day sale (now back at 150-160€)
If you are not in a hurry, I would recommend to monitor prices for some 3-4 weeks, maybe GL inet shop gets it back in stock and maybe Amazon makes some more good offers during the upcoming Cyber monday and black friday sale.
How about Asus RT-AX53U? I don't read French but I guess it's selling around EUR43 which should work for you?
It was perhaps a good solution..I have buy a MT6000 from Amazon.
I know that the original firmware, based on OpenWrt is in late with the current version of OpenWrt, but..with basics usages Do I need the latest version?
I am interested in the base firmware, for common functions, and the possibility of switching to OpenWrt if i need more. I'll just have to manage the opening of Ipv6 in Slaac for a TV player, and some device priority options (Qos)
And then we know that the manufacturer is working on a firmware based on a recent Open Wrt..If it's one or two months late, it's not a big deal.
OpenWrt already supports this router, and this router has "modern" specifications - I'm in for 10 years before seeing its limits!
