Make sure to get one explicitly mentioning 3.3V support, some are 5V based - and hope that you didn't fry the SOC already by your earlier attempts.
Well, having some bad luck. The pl2303 arrived, but my linux machine does not recognize it. I had a pl2303 usb-serial before and worked fine. Does anybody know if there is any magic to get it working? I have tried to load usbserial, ftdi-sio and pl2303 modules manually, but got nothing. I guess I'll have to ask for a refund and try another one.
Do you anything in dmesg when you plug it in?
There's plenty of counter feit pl2303s out there.
Let me see, I have somewhere around a working driver for one of those pl2303 that I found some time ago...
I think that it was this one the one that worked for me at that time:
http://io-cable_pl-2303_drivers-generic_windows_pl2303_prolific.zip/
The original post were I found it was here:
http://wp.brodzinski.net/2014/10/01/fake-pl2303-how-to-install/
Also take a look into https://youtu.be/H394FnMzeFo
Try downloading it, if you couldn't then I will search on my computer later.
Also. If you have q raspberry pi laying around (any) you can connect to it and access using ssh and screen/minicom. I done that several times. It works great.
Thank you all guys for the help. I got an arduino uno and used it as some sort of serial ttl adapter following a guide I found on the net. Unfortunately, I think it's bricked, as I have nothing on the serial port. I'll try to get a pic later, maybe I wired something wrong.
Anyway, I'd like to thank everyone! It's a nice community you all built here.
No, probably not. You may connected something wrong.
Usually we mismatch tx and rx. Also, only connect gnd, rx and tx and nothing else. DO NOT CONNECT VCC OR V3.3. usually nothing happens but sometimes you can se a blown small tantalium capacitor near the pins.
But usually still works the pins.
Also you need to check if you set up correctly the arduino. I dont remember Arduino UNO, but remember to use 3.3v and not a 5V one, will not work with 5V.
Try again with another cable or a raspberrypi (that it is basically a computer with embedded 3.3v ttl pins)
You can use a rpi zero and connect to it using wifi/ssh.
But a good cable will be faster to get it working.
Hello, i have the HDD of my ez media backup completly dead, need change it but i cant find anywhere this file "EZMedia-recovery-4.0.2.9960.zip" nas-central is dead too. Do you have this file and you can upload it for me? You are the only salvation for my NAS. Thaks for your help.
I think I found the same file, see:
Other than that, If you have at least some minimal ssh and linux experience I strongly recommend to try to install just plain Debian and later something like OpenMediaVault or similar to give a new life to your NAS, see: Lenovo Iomega EZ Media & Backup Center - #35 by braian87b
See just in case these others, I found these links while digging internet, but seems to be the 2 disk version of the box, but instructions may be useful/similar:
- For the EZ Media, download EZMedia-recovery-4.0.2.9960.zip.
- For the ix2-ng, download ix2-ng-4.0.2.9960-recovery.zip

@braian87b : Wow.
@maialuis For completeness and future Google guided visitors, I have a backup of my Iomega related files from nas-central.org here.
(BTW, the wiki can still be found at archive.org: WayBackMachine. )
Thank you so much, you saved my NAS. Much apreciated help. Thank you again
