LAN Link keeps dropping (24.10 RC4)

Hardware: R7800
Firmware: OpenWrt 24.10.0-rc4 r28211-d55754c

I've started seeing fair few disconnects to my Synology NAS which is connected with ethernet to the router - I have not noticed these before switching to 24.10, however I can not say for sure.

Initially it was LAN4, so I switched the NAS from LAN4 to LAN2 to rule out the port itself, but from then onwards it kept dropping LAN2, rather than LAN4.

Entries in my log look like this:

Thu Jan 2 22:51:01 2025 daemon.notice netifd: Network device 'lan2' link is down
Thu Jan 2 22:51:01 2025 kern.info kernel: [109466.626341] br-lan: port 2(lan2) entered disabled state

Whenever it happens it will bring with port up within seconds. (It has happened 4 times today).

(It does not happen to other ports, only the one connected to my NAS)

What can I do to troubleshoot this? (I will try another cable)

This is the first step and should be accompanied by also inspecting the ports for any bent pins or debris.

You can also try dropping down to 23.05 to see if the behavior persists or not.

As well as trying one of the other LAN ports of your router.

Ports may also go down intermittently if the NAS is rebooting, entering some kind of sleep mode (suspend/ hibernation or merely just some 'eco-mode' which may dial down the link speed to 100 MBit/s when idle), as well as reboots or reconfigurations on router- or NAS. So check the logs (on both ends) for any of that as well.

I also started seeing these incidents (one or two per day after I upgraded my Edge Router X to 24.10 (RC4). It was just fine with 23.X. I will watch out if these continue (happend with ports connected with EAP610 AP as well as a mini-PC, other ports aren't connected other than WAN port!).

EDIT: Haven't seen these messages within the last few days!

I've changed the cable and tried different ports on the router, the drops still occur.

I will try to drop to 23.05 and see how that goes.

R7800 router now downgraded to 23.05.5.. I will check the log later today to see if the LAN port has dropped the same way the 24.04 build did.

I have also noticed this behavior on 24.10RC4. Snapshot builds did not have this issue. Device is zyxel ex5601

6 hours running 23.05.5 and not a single LAN drop - normally I would have 2-3 over the same period.. I will leave it running over night and report back tomorrow.

Another update.. I had no drops in 23.05 and have since also tested the latest SNAPSHOP and again, no drops.. So for me the LAN drops only happen in 24.10..

Not very helpful perhaps, but have now ran SNAPSHOT for a further 3 days, and no dropouts..

My conclusion: Something in 24.10 is causing the drops of the LAN ports, it no longer happens in SNAPSHOT.
