next project:

replace stupid 16M memory flash with 32 or 64 M ( not much memory with samba4 )

yeah, samba4 is a space hog, you could try cifs instead :wink:

I totally agree with @frollic.
I don't know if you really want to change the flash memory as you will lose upstream support and have to patch the image yourself.

CIFS is indeed a good choice on those tiny devices.

Flash memory 16M is almost unknown : BoHong bh25q128as ..

to replace the memory it is extremely easy because there is no component nearby.

yes it will be necessary to see with the source code ...

at the moment I am looking for 128M memories to replace on all my boxes !!!

Flash memory 16M is almost unknown : BoHong bh25q128as replaced by a Macronix 32MB

no problem with flash boot ( tftp -> console 2 ... ) for flash old 16M content

build new firmware for 32M flash memory

for read old content : CH341 -> NeoProgrammer_2.1.0.19
after write content in as MX25L25635E or WINBOND 256MB
startup -> tftp key 2 .... OpenWrt firmware
firstboot -> reboot -f

Variant for 32M version

modify in mt7621.mk
IMAGE_SIZE := 32448k

modify in mt7621_tenbay_t-mb5eu-32M.dts
reg = <0x90000 0x1F70000>

build
flash new firmware with tftp

if you have a USB NTFS problem:with ntfs-3g
solved with ln -s /usr/bin/ntfs-3g /sbin/mount.ntfs
reboot

If you have a problem for AP <-> Client solved with last fix

New for snapshots & bad MAC Address

Does 5GHz work properly for you?

It's so bad on all my T-MB5EU-V01s (Mar 9 snapshot) that clients won't even try connect when they're straight next to them, despite setting it to max transmission power (which at 22dB/158mW is poor, my country allows 27/500 on most and even 30/1000 on some 5GHz channels).

I have to force it by disabling 2.4GHz (which works fine).

Also, running 5GHz in N/AC mode makes clients not even find the SSID anymore.

Today's snapshot breaks wifi entirely, probably due to the changes to openwrt's mt76 repo over the past two days.

Still, could you please answer if 5GHz (AC/AX, 80/160MHz) did work for you?

Late answer to myself: Days after I wrote that question, there were fixes to the mt76 driver that now allow the wifi (vanilla settings) to run smoothly on both bands.

I'm still using ptpt52's branch as it contains a couple of useful commits, such as disabling 160MHz for 5GHz – the router's MT7915 DBDC doesn't support it, it's offered in error.

This is an interesting router, one which supports both WiFi6 and USB3. Could you please post some performance benchmarks? E.g. a few of those:

  • WAN <-> wired LAN routing performance using iperf3, with flow offloading disabled / software / hardware)
  • WLAN <-> LAN throughput as a pure AP
  • CIFS serving of a large file from a USB3 drive via LAN (read-only)
  • CIFS serving of a large file from a USB3 drive via WLAN (read-only)
  • Wireguard, IKEv2, or OpenVPN throughput
  • openssl speed

I am interested too

does anybody know how to recover this device, nothing on the web about that.
this is a zero info device.
device is in bootloop cannot stop from serial, tftp not working.

bricco1981

Did you receive my messages with the original firmware & some info ?
....

Could you send me the same info please?

Tried upgrading from a Dec22 build to today's. Now it's bricked, constant red LED after 3s. Reset button and long-pressing power has no effect.

Any hint how to recover is appreciated.

Also, if somebody is able to run a recent build without issue, please tell.
