Is there any way to forward kerlen messages to Syslog? I need the Ethernet physical connection events to be passed.

Have you tried installing rsyslog?
System > software
Search Syslog
Install rsyslog
Then configure it to your needs.
(How’re you going to get any alerts If your uplink for logging to is unavailable?)
