Issues with ZTE USB Dongle not appearing in ifconfig

I've been following the USB dongle setup instructions but not getting the device recognised in ifconfig output. Can anyone that has got a USB ZTE LTE modem up and running provide any pointers please:

I had followed that but adding USB mode switch was the missing piece
