Issues with installing/stability of OpenWrt on Linksys EA8300

Hello everyone. I need some help with flashing a Linksys EA8300 router. I bought the router used and am planning to use it for traffic monitoring (nlbwmon + external USB flash drive for logs).

History of actions:

  • Initially, I successfully flashed OpenWrt 22.03.5 (factory.bin), increased kernsize to 500000, and upgraded to 24.10.5 (sysupgrade).
  • I configured the system, and everything worked stably for about 6 days.
  • After that, the router stopped providing internet access. Rebooting did not help, and I lost access to the device.

Current situation:
The stock Linksys firmware works correctly on both partitions (I have checked this multiple times).
Any attempts to flash OpenWrt (via the Linksys web interface, UART, or clean flashing via U-Boot) lead to instability:

  • Hanging at the "Starting kernel..." stage.
  • Hanging at the following stage:

  • Intermittent DHCP IP assignment, but no access to LuCI (Web UI).
  • The boot process completes, but after 5–10 minutes, the network drops, access to the router is lost, and periodic reboots may occur.

What I have tried:

  • Reverting to stock firmware (works stably).
  • Flashing OpenWrt factory.bin to both partitions.
  • Clearing memory via U-Boot before installation.
  • Attempting to install various versions of OpenWrt (older and newer).

Could you please suggest what the cause might be and what direction I should look in to restore stable OpenWrt operation?
I can provide UART boot logs if needed.

That preinit error would make me suspicious of either a non-clean overlay/config being carried across, or a bad/corrupt image rather than a normal settings problem. I’d try one flash with the official 24.10.5 factory image from stock, do not keep settings, and leave USB/nlbwmon out until it has run stable for a while. If it still hangs on a clean boot, the UART log from power-on through the first reboot/drop would probably be the most useful thing to post.

I have tried installing the OpenWrt 24.10.5 factory image as you suggested. I am currently not installing nlbwmon or any other extensions, as my main goal is to achieve basic system stability first. I am puzzled by the fact that the stock firmware runs without any issues, while OpenWrt fails to remain stable.
Currently, here is the situation:
OpenWrt boots up.
The router does not assign an IP address to the computer.
The LED indicators on the EA8300 do not light up; only one LAN and one WAN port show activity.
I only have access via PuTTY, and the command prompt shows root@(none):~#.
