Issues with Ethernet after OpenWRT installation

hello everyone!

So my current ISP is optimum in which I have contacted to take me onto bridge mode with their modem/router as well as turn off the WiFi on it to avoid any double Nat. that seemed to go smoothly as far as I can tell.

I then bought a router that supports openwrt which is the dynalink wrx36, and everything seems to be smooth other than the ethernet internet.

Wireless wifi seems to work as I have set it up, but ethernet when plugged into the wrx36 is not working at all

due to a suggestion on reddit, I made the lan ip 192.168.2.1, and now noted that I can log into the main modem/routers portal through 192.168.1.1. this only applies to wireless devices, through my PC that is wired nothing connects and I can’t login to a portal or wifi.

any suggestions

Why do you have a wan alias called modem and what is it supposed to do?

And what other changes have you done?

I was doing something with this here : https://openwrt.org/docs/guide-user/network/wan/access.modem.through.nat

Other than that, the only change I made (other than turning on the wireless 5Ghz band) was change that IP from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.2.1

Reset, leave everything as default, except for the LAN subnet.

finally worked. I had to reset the whole configuration. i must have touched something by mistake.

As I wrote to you on Reddit, modem isn't bridged though, or you're using the wrong port.

how would i verify which port? and how would i verify the bridge mode is in fact working

the modem from optimum only has two ethernet ports. so i can try switching it and seeing the results

Trial and error.

I would assume bridging would get you a public IP on the WAN port, if not, there isn't really any point ...

had to reach back out to the ISP and get it re enabled. now it’s showing a public IP.

thanks for pointing that out!
