Issue after installing OpenWrt on Zyxel Multy M1

Hello,

I have three Zyxel Multy M1 devices that I was using in bridge mode, with one acting as the main node (central unit) and the other two as satellites. I decided to experiment with OpenWRT and installed it on the main M1 device. However, after the installation, the device’s LED changed from green to white, and I can no longer access the device or the OpenWRT interface.

I attempted to reset the device to factory settings, but this did not resolve the issue. Currently, I am using the other two M1 devices in my network, with one acting as the central unit and the other as a satellite, but I would like to revert the OpenWRT-flashed device back to stock firmware.

The situation is further complicated because when I try to access 192.168.1.1, I am directed to my modem’s interface, not the Multy M1, which prevents me from controlling or accessing the M1 device.

I need assistance on how to revert this device back to its stock firmware. I’m considering using TFTP or similar methods but am not entirely sure how to proceed. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

can you cable into the flashed WSM20 without being connected to the network?

As @hecatae said: connect to it without your modem on the same network, e.g., using just a cable and nothing else connected. Concerning the white light: that is normal. Those devices by default turn on "white" with OpenWRT. You can control all of the LEDs if you want to, e.g., I do turn those LEDs off at night for one of mine.

but the white led is so pretty, it lights up the room...

Yes i can but im trying 192.168.1.1 and it says cant reach that website

Can you ssh into 192.168.1.1? Make sure there's no IP clash if using your LAN- direct connect if you can with any LAN and use a fixed IP on your computer.

Which ethernet port do you use ? You should try with one in the middle. I don't remember which but the one at the bottom (or top) is for wan and doesn't allow connection to the interface.
I had this problem the first time I installed openwrt.

I use the bottom one. Which says wan/lan

No i cant. It says timeout

I think It's the one set as wan by openwrt

Try with another ethernet port

Omg it worked. Now im in openwrt ui. I cant believe it was all just this. Thank you so much

Now all i need is stock firmware of multy m1(wsm20) for bootflash

Hang on a second, why did you want to try Openwrt?

When moving from room to room, I experience disconnections. Sometimes the connection drops entirely, and when I check my phone's Wi-Fi settings, the Wi-Fi signal shows 100%. As soon as I click on it, it reconnects.

I had the opposite. On the stock firmware on the WSM20 when they are connected as a mesh my wifi data connections would drop for a few seconds between AP. I went thru Zyxel support and was eventually told it probably will not be fixed.
I loaded Openwrt and just left each WSM20 as a standard AP (no mesh overlay), all with the same WIFI name and password. The WIFI client on the my phone does a good job auto selecting the strongest signal, nothing complicated required. Pity there is no easy way of linking the WIFI config on each device i.e. update the WIFI settings on one device and it auto pushes out to the others.

BTW There seems to be a fascination with some about ultra high speed WIFI. I've not seen a single valid use case for having 1Gigabit download on wifi. What am i missing?

@philtrick thank you for confirming @2xqwertyx1 has a known issue with stock firmware.

I've got 3 wsm20 deployed exactly the same as yours at my parents, works seamlessly.
