Is OpenWRT compatible with TP-Link TL-MR3420 v5.1?

Hello, I would like to ask whether OpenWRT is compatible with TP-Link TL-MR3420 v5.1?

Here are the details of my device:

  • Model : TL-MR3420 (EU)
  • *Hardware Version : v5.1 (written on the label)
  • Firmware Version : 1.4.0.0.9.1 v0001.0 Build 180712 Rel.61343n
  • Bootloader: Original TP-Link firmware
  • Label Info: "Ver: 5.1" is printed on the bottom sticker

I’ve found this OpenWRT guide for v5:
:backhand_index_pointing_right: https://openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-mr3420_v5?s[]=*tp&s[]=*link

But my device is specifically labeled as v5.1. Is it safe to use the same firmware for v5? Are there any known differences between v5 and v5.1 regarding compatibility?

I would really appreciate any clarification or suggestions on this.

Thank you very much for your help!

In the world of TP-Link, vX.z == vX, so yes it should be safe.

Thanks for the reply! I understand that TP-Link often treats vX.z as the same as vX.

That said, I’d like to ask:
Is there any official or community confirmation that the TL-MR3420 v5.1 uses exactly the same hardware (such as SoC, Wi-Fi chip, or flash layout) as the v5.0?

I ask this because sometimes manufacturers introduce silent hardware changes while keeping the same main version number.

Just looking for clarification before proceeding further.

Thank you very much for your help!

Not often, AFAIK.

This forum is as official as it gets, searched it for "MR3420 v5.1" ?

TP-Link <> Xiaomi.
