Hi I am new here and I wanna ask if Openwrt is available on Linksys mx4050, I heard that it worked on Linksys mx4200 but never heard of Linksys mx4050, if it's not, would it be available any moment soon?
nope
not unless someone who owns one put it the time and work required to make it happen.
Generally speaking, if it's not on the Firmware Selector, then it's not available.
However, according to the DD-WRT wiki, MX4050 is a synonym for MX4200v1, for which there is support for:
This is consistent with one other reference to MX4050 on the OpenWrt forum:
So maybe it's worth flashing as if it is an MX4200v1 and see if it works? If you attempt this, let us know how it goes and someone can update the wiki if the result is positive. If you're already using MX4050 as your main router, please switch it out for something else (or even another MX4050) and treat the MX4050 as a test bed.
if you do, keep in mind you might end up with a soft brick.
hmm very interesting, if DDWRT is correct then I guess MX4050 is considered a MX4200v1. Too bad I got only one MX4050 for my family and I can't afford to lose it...
Still, I would search for more information on other Chinese forum or some other website since I am Chinese, if I managed to find more evidence stating it would work then I might give it a try and let you guys know.
Thanks for the replies, your information is very helpful.
The same hardware on the spec sheet does not guarantee that GPIOs and pinstrapping are identical, before even opening the can of worms with h/w IDs and flash partitioning.
