is it possible to somehow restrict users in LAN to accessing a VPN server notice that is to block non-technical users to simply downloading an app and connecting to a vpn to avoid my dns filtering

block standard VPN ports, and VPN providers ?

or you need to start doing packet inspection, which will kill a vanilla home router.

something which i believe my small openwrt router can handle

1st option it will, the 2nd, it won't.

so block standard vpn ports from going to wan, and block all those ip's in the github you had sent is there any way i can block all those ip's.

create an ipset, using the banip package.
