A beginner's question: If I make an archive (backup) on a piece of hardware (a Netgear router), can I use that archive to configure an other piece of hardware (a TP-Link router). They are both up-to-date with OpenWrt 23.05.2
No. Attempting to restore a backup on a different device could cause it to soft-brick. It is not recommended even if it is between two identical devices because of things like MAC addresses and the like, but across different device brands and/or models is not supported and may cause major issues.
For some limited config items that do not have a hardware dependency (such as firewall configurations, DHCP reservations, or VPN configuration details), you can potentially copy those sections into place manually -- but this must be done very carefully.
