IPTV stuttering/buffering - How to debug?

Having WRT3200ACM with freshly installed 24.10.4 and intermediate issues with IPTV provider(s) - It plays flawlessly on my TV for several minutes and then hangs for a few seconds before resuming. During today I can see no systematic in how often or when it happens. I upgraded from 22.03 to see if that fixed the issue but unfortunately no.

Obviously there are many places this can go wrong: TV, cables, switch, router, ISP, IPTV server, etc.

Vanilla OpenWRT 24.10.4, with nano and snmpd as the only extra packages. I installed without keeping configuration.
I do get the following lines in the log: No default route present, setting ra_lifetime to 0! but I guess that’s a different issue.

State:

  1. Netflix, Disney and HBO just works, no issues (do they have better implementations?)
  2. Both the IPTVs I have are stuttering some times (do they have worse implementations?).
  3. Cabled network from router to TV, same.
  4. Wireless dedicated WLAN5 from router to TV, same.
  5. Had igmpproxy on the previous installation: same (don’t think they’re using IGMP).
  6. Internet speed measures 800-900 Mbit/s both ways (no stuttering happened during those tests…)
  7. Router has almost no traffic (around the times when stuttering happens).

I wonder if I should try to hook the TV up directly into the fiber-modem

Apart from getting the answer that fixes everything, I guess I’m asking for tips to troubleshoot where the problem is

How can I see if the problem is:

  1. before the router?
  2. on IPTV server side?
  3. on ISP side?
  4. on the router?
  5. after the router (cabling)?

Since Netflix, Disney and HBO just works, I’m inclined to believe that the problem is on the IPTV side, but then again, both of them?

This would be a good way to test first, then work downstream:
