Ipq806x NSS build (Netgear R7800 / TP-Link C2600 / Linksys EA8500)

This is a single R7800 that I have running my home. I have had recent images run for 8 days. I think I had one run 10 or more days. The run time seems variable and does not seem to be based on load. Can you put this 'ramoops log' feature in the next builds at least until we can get it figured out? I am not building my own here, but using yours that you provide from git. The spontaneous reboot has been a 'feature' of the NSS builds for a while and I really think it needs to be resolved so we can get to a 'stable' build.

I have managed to get your image working, doing the configuration again. dns certainly does not work from internal network WIRED LAN, wireless if it works. why?

If I put a wifi adapter to my PC, and I connect to mired wifi, IF IT WORKS.

I use a lot the external DNS address mydirectionip.com to use my services from LAN

I don’t know what is causing the internal DNS issue. There has to be a firewall tweak / port forward that is easy to implement.

I can build a 600mhz NSS core build and see if that is more stable (Ansuel wants to test if the higher speed needs more voltage - thus the crashes possible are a voltage issue rather than a kernel issue). Should be able to build it tonight.

@ACwifidude Here are logs from serial console of ea7500 firmware 20201231 (it's the best but will reboot at night sometime)

Hi, completely new to the custom NSS build here and I've tried the latest commit (45f5433) on my R7800 but occasionally got the following syslog:

The router itself doesn't crash or reboot but I don't know what's going on with the NSS driver. Is it safe to ignore these errors?

Anyone getting these in the syslog and kernel log? It seems to be accompanied with degraded performance through the WAN. I'm going to disable hardware offloading for now.

hello friend, do you understand this? this is what makes what i need work. In Kong I did not create any special rule, the same is missing a package that performs this.

config include 'qcanssecm'
	option type 'script'
	option path '/etc/firewall.d/qca-nss-ecm'
	option family 'any'
	option reload '1'

what does that do exactly? etc/config/firewall

Hej @ACwifidude,

to night, since 04:28 (CEST), i get several times a second:

@ACwifidude the version from 1/24 just rebooted after less than 5 days. Light load only me reading the fake news NYTimes and my wife browsing zulilly.
Is the memory oops logging enabled in the 1/24 version? Do I just need to set it up to log in 'local startup', or do I have to build a version to be able to log it.

The only other issue I note is that my time based firewall rules (turing off internet for specific devices at specific times) no longer work. I have made no changes to the firewall rules. I just keep the settings when I upgrade the image. It was working, but recently, I notice that It no longer shuts down the internet to the MAC addresses of interest. I noticed that I cannot enable any of the time based rules from the UI. Typical rule:

config rule
        option stop_time '07:00:00'
        option target 'REJECT'
        option extra '--weekdays Fri'
        option name 'Kids-Friday'
        option src 'lan'
        option dest 'wan'
        list src_mac 'xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx'
        list src_mac 'xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx'
        list src_mac 'xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx'
        list src_mac 'xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx'
        list src_mac 'xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx'
        list src_mac 'xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx'
        option enabled '0'
        option start_time '23:59:00'

The Luci page looks like this:

If I select 'Enable' then 'Save and apply', it says that there are no changes to apply.
Local time is set as is my timezone. If I select the enable the rule than save, it just unselects it.
If I edit the /etc/config/firewall to enable the rules then run "/etc/init.d/firewall reload" and go back to the web interface, the rules now show as 'enabled'. I guess they will work again. It is just that I cannot enable them from the Luci UI.

There is a known bug for firewall in master. I’ll have to find the post - somebody has written a fix.... it just isn’t in master yet.

Build based on r15598+80-1fb413e657 (C2600) - still not working WAN (eth0) - No IP address.
dmesg at https://gist.github.com/imkebe/a293e21aff954f4b13531668028aa52a
5Ghz WiFi was working. Not sure why 2,4Ghz not (probably not included firmware)

How about yesterday’s build?

New build has the cryptodev package, a fix that might help ipq8064 devices, and a 600mHz build for r7800 users with crashes (see if it is more stable). Enjoy!

Thanks my Friend for cryptodev package - you are very receptive to user input and I for one appreciate that attitude along with your dedication and efforts

Looks like putting the interface in promiscuous mode could work with custom internal DNS configurations. Something like this:

ifconfig br-lan promisc

You can turn it off like this:

ifconfig br-lan -promisc

Works! THANKS! :kissing_heart:
Now can use the DDNS-Alias with port forwarding from internal.

I am also new to this build. I just pulled a C2600 out of my junk bin, is there a stable release with nss from someone? (not having a working wan port would suck, and forgive me for not reading the whole thread). I don't mind pitching in on new features, just
would like to start with something that mostly worked....

Nobody has reported in on the last two builds for the C2600. All the settings are based off the successful 31 December build.

Feel free to try it out and see what you think.
