IoT, Bosch Dishwasher no connection via OpenWrt 24.10.4

Can't "modern" washing machines just "wash for X minutes at Y degrees and rinse it Z times with optional drying" without an app?

Yes, but if you want to wash a goose down jacket you have to use the app to correctly wash and dry it. Same if you want to wash a piece of lingerie.

Or if you want to monitor your consumption and make the washer start in the off peak tariff zone (usefull if you live in Europe).

Where i live there will be soon some different, cheaper power prices during specific hours of the day - i will then start the washer in these times to save money… and another fine tool is having an overview of the device (does it need salt or whatever) about the resources it used in the different modes (water consumption, amount of power per program).
All in all i love this remote feature on the dishwasher!

As if that mode was something different from simple reduced RPM. Usually they call it "Gentle" or "Wool". BTW, you're not supposed to wet clean furs or goose down. I know, I know, they say it on label... - no matter how gentle you're, you'll ruin its insulation properties. Proper winter gear has overcoat - you wash or even change it. Trust me, I live in Northern country and sometimes I travel even further North. I remember something like 15 y.o. I participated in plant reconstruction project with the French guy. He was refusing buying stupid looking fur coat and hats when proper winter with -20-30 began... until pneumonia knocked him out for a full month

Thanks god, we don't have that. But even 20 years ago they had delayed start option. There was no need for WiFi for that to work. Having washing machine (or any other equipment) working unattended is a bad idea anyway. My neighbour once flooded 2 stories down and had to pay ~3000 USD because his kid played in the bathroom and managed to disconnect discharge pipe :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

It is a must have feature for industrial equipment but for personal use... - why would anyone want to make his life so miserable by counting every penny? If I start saying my wife when she has to bathe or how to wash dishes... she'd probably file for divorce after month of niggling like that.

Yeah - this is the large topic of useful/wasteful IoT features of modern devices… Anyways, I like the notify action of my washing machine - as it often takes longer than the program says. So I don’t walk down the cellar to wait & watch my washing machine still finishing the program…

The problem is not the 2-buck esp8285 (or Beken, Realtek, etc.) wifi module, but the application layer, the cloud based processing.

But all this doesn't tackle the OP's problem and gets increasingly off-topic. Let's concentrate on the actual problem behind this topic, the interoperability issues of mwlwifi and/ or the subtle differences of AP configs abd vebdor extensions.

He has to report back whether disabling optional WiFi features worked or not. Meanwhile we can (can we?) dance around this topic.

I would assume that cheap hours are night hours... I have a question: Why do you want to check your washing machine in the middle of the night? You have just two sets of underware? Another question is about curious case of Internet-enabled kettles and vacuum cleaners. Why do you want that? Just FYI - I owned that sh...t for 3 months and gave it back to my sister who assumed that "a tech guy would want one for his birthday". Start cleaner remotely just to realize that it got stuck with shoelace in 15 minutes. Not mentioning that it sends (and it does) pictures and maps to some Chinese servers?

You should probably check water pressure and filters. Washing machine runs by timer, only those water pumping by "when water level reached its full or empty level". It's not that hard and a nice exercise for those who's got their fingers glued to mouse.

@Hausmarke is somehow genuinely pissed by my comments and keeps, in best traditions of Kristallnacht, keeps filing complains on those he disliked :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Not any more cheap hours are dynamically when the sun shines and the wind is blowing so on windy and sunny days

Is it that bad? How do you plan washing hours then? Weather station?

You have an app with the cheap hours and ideally you program your washing machine to start when the cheap hours are, the same for charging an electric car.

Yes this is "progress" almost 50 % of electricity in the Netherlands is from solar and wind

Btw - by disabling the 5G Module, going down to “WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK Mixed Mode” i was able to solve my problems. I could bring in also a new plug - but not with the automatic mode in this SmartLife app - i had to use the “manual mode”.
Thank you for your help.

Make a separate networkfor yourself. WPA1+TKIP handshake can be cracked with average desktop video card in under week.

I have a Bosch dishwasher with wifi. It works with wpa2 encryption. Do not use wpa1 or or wpa1/wpa2 mixed mode.

It is really not a bad idea at all. I had recently someone trying to crack my WiFi for several days, even had screenshots and logs made to share with my security oriented friend. But attempts were futile and they dropped it

But it isn’t necessary and you need to take extra steps to secure the upstream router.

The simple approach is to make an iot (aka guest) network properly secured and isolated, it will work the same as an additional router, but without the need to use extra hardware and it is easier to administer with proper security.

Policy of my former employer required physical security of "untrusted" equipment. I treat IoT as untrusted. How can I trust ubuquitous Chinese IP cameras? Thanks God at least we have some OpenIPC compatible.

As you should.

But using a separate router is not necessary when you have openwrt on the primary/only router. You can secure the iot network by means of the firewall on openwrt.

Mine didnt - and i had more problems with my plugs - and i can not find any info about the technical details of the plug nor the Bosch device…
