Installing OpenWRT on Xiaomi R4AC

I spent my days for bricking and debricking router and still can't success. Its bricking when I install R4AC Int version. With Chinese version and 4C image I can have access to admin page but this time i have no internet connection. The Xiaomi router connected to a DOCSIS modem with cable.

can't really help you when you don't provide anything but "it doesn't work".

Sorry, I'm new and I don't know anything about these things. I just followed guide and when I install it I can enter interface but there is no connection with cable or WiFi. What should I share here to make it easier.

how does this add up ?

After installing OpenWRT, I have access to 192.168.1.1 but thats all. I have no connection. Windows says ''No Internet''. Is there a problem or a setup required? I have disabled firewall but it did not help too.

depends in the type of connection you've got.

then it'll never work.

Router is connected to DOCSIS modem (Infinity 401). The PC is connected with ethernet cable to router. I installed 2.18.58 back for internet connection. If you need something like log I can install OpenWRT again.

Can you check the WAN address on the R4AC is the same when you've reflashed it with openwrt (matches the bottom sticker).

Sorry I'm making it harder but I don't know the WAN address, could be 192.168.31.1? I'm using this for interface when its stock firmware. After installing OpenWRT I can't use it, only 192.168.1.1 works.

no, those are the LAN side IPs, which differ between the stock and openwrt firmware.

MAC address is in the form A4:4B:1D:7E:AA:80.

Yeah i found it. So I'm going to install OpenWRT then in Interface tab I will check WAN's address right? What if its not the same?

if not the same, 1st thing is to make it the same.
so keep the one you had in stock written down, before you reflash.

Okay, its installed. MAC is changed. Last letter is different. What to do?

LAN's MAC address matches but WAN and WAN6 is different.

I found how to change MAC and it worked! Now i have connection. I have been spent 10 days for bricking and debricking and it finally worked. Thanks a lot!

great!

it probably would have worked without this "hack", if you had left the R4AC hooked up to the modem long enough, but who knows.

some upstream devices, like modems, cache the MAC address of the downstream device (like your router), and won't allow a different MAC to be used for X amount of time (usually minutes), or until restarted.

now, make sure the MAC of the WAN and LAN interfaces aren't the same, it could introduce other issues.

WAN and LAN has same MAC. I installed WiFi with same MAC too. For now both of them works. I don't know what should i enter for LAN MAC.

Not important....
