It has the forked Openwrt version OpenWrt 21.02-SNAPSHOT pre-installed
I want to switch to the current OpenWrt of this project. I have read that I can "use the sysupgrade image with the built-in firmware upgrade method on the GL-Inet fork".
With this upgrade how can I keep the settings which I have entered so far in the forked OpenWrt version?
You cannot keep settings. The gl-inet fork has many deviations from official openwrt, including the syntax of the config files. Attempting to keep the settings will at best cause you headaches down the line, but more likely (and worse) soft brick the device.
Hello
I went through this this summer.
I have a flint2 too.
It took me severals months to have the courage to migrate from GL’s firmware to pure OpenWRT.
Essentially because I’m new to OpenWRT and I didn’t fully understood (and still does) how OpenWRT works , and how to set some settings up.
But I did it anyway, and it took me many hours to reconfigure all I had with gl.inet’s firmware.
You have to completely erase all settings otherwise there will be many problems.
But , you can back up some settings like all the DHCP reservation , if you have many like me…
After installing OW 24.10.4 you can edit the dhcp file and copy back the config host part.
Ah this warning is specific to this device because of the bootloader.
My bad. I had only devices in my hand where this did not mattered.
Thanks for the correction. Today I learned something new
Good to know your experience! I might wait a bit with the swap to pure OW too.
(Then, maybe, just maybe, I can export all settings from the old GL OpenWrt to a text file and use that after flashing the new pure OpenWrt to manually re-enter all settings.)
