Installed OpenWRT successfully but status page shows different device version?

I installed OpenWRT on my Archer C7 1750 V3. On the bottom of the router itself the sticker says version 3.0 and I installed the version 3.0 firmware which is 22.03.3. It is a US model device.

However, one strange thing I noticed is on the OpenWRT status page it shows the device as "TP-Link Archer C7 v2".

Everything seems to be functioning fine but I'm curious to know, what's the reason for this?

Because you've installed the c7-v2 image, as there is no dedicated v3 image. v2 and v3 are similar enough to use the same v2 image for both, and the hardware name is hardcoded in the image (within its included DTS).

If you search its device page, you'll also notice:

Comments - general C7 v3 works with images of C7 v2

So neither a bug, nor a problem - all working as expected.

Okay that makes sense, however question though. On the wiki page: https://openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/archer_c7, it states that the latest v3 firmware is 22.03.3 and the latest v2 firmware is 23.05.0. Since the firmware is actually v2 firmware, should I install the v2 firmware since it is newer?

The bulk updating of wiki entries for 23.05.x hasn't really happened yet (it's difficult to get all cases), so yes - you should (and can) upgrade to the most recent stable release versions (23.05.2).
