Install OpenWrt on Asus RT-AC58U

@mpratt14

Did you actually attempt to do this? Does it work?

Stock -> WebUI upgrade to X-WRT -> Sysupgrade to OpenWRT current snapshot

In addition, I actually have RT-ACRH13 which I believe is the same hardware as AC-58U, but I am looking for confirmation on that?

You have the right idea

It works according to @ptpt52, not me

I have not done this, but I have done a similar thing for a different router with a different fork of OpenWRT (from easywrt.com), which helped me to get the real OpenWRT on in 2 flashes.

    ipq40xx: RT-AC58U: "easy install" factory.trx

@ptpt52

I see that this commit was discussed, but I'm not seeing a .trx download available in latest snapshots for AC58U?

I just installed X-WRT over untouched stock firmware on AC-RT58U, then just used the LuCI GUI to upload the OpenWRT sysupgrade .bin. So far so good, seems to work fine. I'm a newbie so I don't know if I have to mess around with jffs2 volumes as described in the OpenWRT documentation: https://openwrt.org/toh/asus/rt-ac58u If anyone could help me out, I'd appreciate it!

The docs describe removing a partition just to make more room, if you have enough space for your needs then I would just leave it

Has anyone installed 19.07.4 update on asus RT-AC58U ???

I downloaded the image https://openwrt.org/toh/asus/rt-ac58u for updating from version 19.07.3 through the web interface of the router. After the reboot, the version remained the same.

Now I tried to update again http://downloads.openwrt.org/releases/19.07.4/targets/ipq40xx/generic/openwrt-19.07.4-ipq40xx-generic-asus_rt-ac58u-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin and the update was installed. The issue has been resolved.
