Install and use different DSL driver - is it possible?

Hello!
I've installed LEDE v.17.01.0 final on the TP-Link TD-W9980 and I'm wondering if it is possible to install and try a different version of VDSL driver, for example one that supports vectoring. I've seen this happening here https://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/td-w9980#install_dsl_drivers, but the procedure isn't explained.
Is there an easy way to do this in LEDE, without building it from the beggining?
