In case anyone thinks the commercial vendors don't think OpenWRT is a threat

NAND flash is intended to be used with a version of OpenWRT that has a ubi layer, that protects against when NAND blocks get flaky. by reallocating them. Any OpenWRT version that is built for a NAND device has this in it. The factory firmware for these devices also has that in it.

Hmmm. To be completely clear, that problem cropped up using something other than OWRT or dd-wrt on a Nighthawk. I liked that router.

I would argue that there is way more nuance than has been expressed here with respect to the commercial vendors opinions on OpenWrt and also their specific goals and motivations for the products they produce. But, it's also largely irrelevant on this site as the forums are not where those goals/motivations/opinions are going to be influenced. It serves no real practical purpose to discuss/debate these topics here... in fact, it actually runs the risk of causing unnecessary conflict as people express strong opinions that are hard to prove or disprove. This forum generally works best when we come together to support each other in ways that are less opinion based and more about problem solving. As such, I'm closing this thread so we can focus on helping people get the most out of their OpenWrt setups.
