Image check failed when upgrading to 24.10 stable

Hello there,

I'm currently running OpenWrt SNAPSHOT r28072-b902284290 / LuCI Master 24.336.39440~1e7ce8d on a Linksys E8450 (UBI).

Now that 24.10 STABLE has been released, I would like to upgrade to this version. I downloaded the supposedly right image using the Firnware Selector tool: https://firmware-selector.openwrt.org/?version=24.10.0&target=mediatek%2Fmt7622&id=linksys_e8450

When I attempted to upgrade using LuCi, it gave me the following error:

Image check failed:

Thu Feb 6 17:14:14 CET 2025 upgrade: Device linksys,e8450-ubi not supported by this image Thu Feb 6 17:14:14 CET 2025 upgrade: Supported devices: linksys,e8450 Image check failed

Is it safe to upgrade, if not, what am I doing wrong here?
BR

24.10.0 should be fine for the e8450/ rt3200, but the partitioning and flash access changed between 23.05 and 24.10, which needs a slightly special process (of first upgrading the bootloader parts). As I have no personal experience with this device, I suggest to follow the advice of the e8450 device page in the wiki and the (long) rt3200 support thread here on the forum. If in (any) doubt, please ask there before commencing the upgrade, it is slightly complex and there are risks if done incorrectly.

So the image check rejection is spot on and is intentionally there, to guard you against accidental bricking.

As @slh says above, there are extra steps involved for RT3200.

  1. If you have not already updated to installer 1.1.3 installer, then

But as for your error, you have obviously converted the device to UBI:

But then you grabbed the incorrect, non-UBI image from FS:
