My Asus RT-N18U is working perfectly fine btw. I am doing this since I wanna know more.
So, I opened the router up. I used only GND,TX, RX respectively. But, without shorting RX and TX I can't see anything on minicom. When I short, I see bootlogs. How to intercept this and do anything though? Is there a boot key like ESC, F12? Do I connect keyboard to the router or something?
switch RX and TX

Still no output. There is only output if I short the tx and rx pins. I do this via putting a screwdriver in between their pins on the router. Am I doing this right? Should I buy two jack to two jack instead to short these pins?
rx and tx mustn't be shorted for accessing the serial console on your device. Shorting the pins is only useful for a quick test of the serial adapter, without anything attached.
