Hi. I’m offering donation of Zyxel nr7103 - 4G/5G outdoor modem for OpenWRT development. This device is very similar to Zyxel nr7101 which is already supported by OpenWRT. Differences to 7101 are small:
- 2.5Gbit ETH port instead of 1Gbit
- USB-C port instead of second SIM card slot
- different 4G/5G modem or the same modem with different FW - not sure
This device can’t be bought retail but it’s being sold only to service providers. Many EU cell operators provide these devices for their fixed internet service. Therefore, second hand market in Europe is flooded with these devices. Because of high supply on second hand market, the nr7103 can be bought for as low as 100€ which is even cheaper than nr7101 despite being higher-end device.
Why is there need for OpenWRT? Zyxel doesn’t publish FW upgrades for nr7103 on their website, which means owners have a difficult time obtaining new FW and keep them running safely.
Since I’m in Europe, I prefer developer from Europe to keep the shipping cost low.
