How to set up OpenVPN after wireless bridge

Hi,

Following previous discussions (see "OpenVPN on wireless bridge?"), I have now the following set up in place:

gateway > wireless bridge (= ZyXEL WSM20 with 23.05.5)

without OpenVPN.
I would like to add another ZyXEL WSM20 (perhaps creating a different subnet) to configure OpenVPN following the instructions in https://openwrt.org/docs/guide-user/services/vpn/openvpn/client-luci#openvpn_client_using_luci so that the new set up would be:

gateway > wireless bridge (first ZyXEL WSM20) > OpenVPN router (second ZyXEL WSM20).
An ethernet cable would go from a port LANx of the first ZyXEL WSM20 to the WAN port of the second ZyXEL WSM20.

Target is to provide OpenVPN to wired clients connected to the LAN ports of the second ZyXEL WSM20 (wifi will be off for this router - if I have seen it correctly, it was the initial setting after installing 23.05.5)

Now the questions :slight_smile: :

a) do you think that it would work, or is there any tricky point I should take care?
b) on the OpenVPN router (second ZyXEL WSM20), would it be possible to add the functionality of AdBlock-Fast, or OpenWPN would not allow that?

If I understand you correctly this new router is connected by ethernet and setup as a regular router so on its own subnet.
So it works just as your primary router and you can use OpenVPN client (although WireGuard is much faster and easier) and Adblock etc.

Yes, exactly, that is the idea.

I have not checked how to configure WireGuard with Luci ... I will have a look, thank you for the remark.
But the important point you highlighted there is that Adblock-Fast is not incompatible with OpenVPN, so I can try to set up the VPN client first and the try with Adblock-Fast (my concern was that, if all the traffic is tunnelled into the VPN, how can the router check it to block ads ... as you can understand, networking is not my cup of tea ...)

Most Adblock packages (I use regular Adblock) use DNS blocking so that should not interfere
