How to properly remove Luci and Lua?

I'm trying to freeup as much space as possible. I don't use the GUI or its components (LUA).
How can I do that?

great resource thank you, but I don't want to rebuild images. Is it still possible?

If you want to save space, building your own image is the only option.
"Removing" packages that are included in the image you have flashed does not save you any space at all.
