I see a good reason for your question, which finally became answered :slight_smile:
However, for several simultaneous users in the connected LAN, I can only see some (very ?) small benefit in using dnsmasq because of its integrated DNS-cache.
Although browsers do the same, a central cache can help to decrease response times in case of concurrent users, by serving cached reply to a new client.
A very valid reason to avoid usage of dnsmasq is a very RAM-restrained openwrt-device. The answer to your question is one more option to pack openwrt into a 4/32-MB device.
