I can't find clear instructions on how to install openwrt on D-link Dir-3040.
The wiki only say "gui install" but no instructions.
Could someone give me the instructions. I don't want to get a bricked router.
Thanks

The directions are here:
You'll almost certainly want the 'factory' image:
(and it goes without saying that you should only use this process/file if you have an A1 version of the device.)
on the first link, I got "404 - No such project"
on the second link, there are three options
Sysupgrade
Recovery
Kernel
Which one should I use, the Kernel option? It says "Linux kernel with minimal file system. Useful for first installation or recovery"
Do I get the LuCi interface with this kernel option?
odd... trying the link again
This should be the file since you'll be using the "recovery" functionality in the router's bootloader.
A while ago the forum started breaking git links, you need to post them specifically as an URL...
The new link works. I will proceed.
Thanks
The installation was successful.
Running 24.10.01 on this router.
