Hootoo TM-02 installation assistance

I'm baffled on how to get the right firmware installed on my Hootoo TM-02. I have the openwrt-18.06-1-ramips-rt305x-ht-tm02-squashhfs-sysupgrade.bin, but the upgrade fails with "wrong file format".

What am I doing wrong?

I beleive your devicepage says to:

Download wingspinners image

See: https://openwrt.org/toh/hootoo/tripmate-nano#openwrt_installation

  • I surmise you can then use the sysupgrade.bin to ensure you're on official firmware.

I'm about to do this install also. Can I please ask for clarification on one point?

The instructions say to Download wingspinners image as you say, but then below that its lists a number of images including http://downloads.openwrt.org/releases/18.06.1/targets/ramips/rt305x/openwrt-18.06.1-ramips-rt305x-ht-tm02-initramfs-kernel.bin

Wingspinners image is 15.05 whereas the other image is 18.06. Can I just install the 18.06 image? Does that have LUCI included?

Thanks again.

The installation instructions seem to be dating back to when this device was not yet officially supported, hence being outdated now that official images are available.

15.05 is antique, has security issues and should not be used any more.

Initial install involves modifying the bootloader so you should start with the wingspinner process then upgrade once OpenWrt is installed. They're 32 MB RAM so I'd suggest 17.01.6 as it is slightly smaller.

All Release builds include LuCI. Depending on what you are trying to do you may want to shut down LuCI and some other things to save RAM.

That's v helpful. Thank you.

So I should start with 15.05 and then 18.06 sysupgrade version?

Thanks again
