Hey there,
I 'm currently revising my home network and would appreciate your support to configure batman-adv the right way.
My current (old) home network uses two OpenWrt devices, one acts a Router and Access Point the other one act as Dumb Access Point and bridge:
wired 802.11s wired
ISP ---------- Router - - - - - Dumb AP ------ Switch
I know the wireless mesh is not ideal but currently necessary.
My new setup is a bit more advanced, it should improve speed in my office room (the Switch behind the Dumb AP) and be more modular:
The idea is to have the router and access point separated. In my old setup I already use batman-adv successfully and I'm happy with it. I use three VLANs to separate teh main, guest and legacy network from each other. As my router is also my access point this is easy to setup with batman.
| SSID | VLAN |
|---|---|
| main-ap | 1 |
| guest-ap | 5 |
| legacy | 10 |
In my new setup the batman-adv server should be on the router, all the APs are just batman clients. Now this is the part I'm stuck with for three days.
The router as three interfaces with DHCP servers: br-lan, br-guest, br-legacy. From my understanding there will be three different configurations necessary:
- The Router: It created the batman server and mapps the the bridged devices to the
bat0.[1|5|10] - The AP-1: It takes the wired batman connection and forwards it to the 802.11s mesh. It also has three Bridged devices in DHCP client mode and the connected SSIDs for the wireless networks
- The AP-2 and AP-3: It takes the 802.11s mesh connection. It also has three Bridged devices in DHCP client mode and the connected SSIDs for the wireless networks. The br-lan bridge als has the physical lan device as member
Could you please help me and give me advice how to configure this setup? I tried for three days now but I'm strugegling a bit with teh wired connection from router to AP-1 via the switch
