Could you share a few specific models? I haven’t been able to find anything similar in Europe at the €30 price point.
And where in Europe can you find this router for €30? I mean in regular stock, not just as a one-time flash sale. If we're talking about buying from China, the model I personally use instead of this one is the CMCC RAX3000Me. Plus, the version shown in the photo has 512MB of RAM and a USB 3.0 port. 512MB is the standard for these routers, everything else is optional — there are even models with 64GB of eMMC memory.
Cudy WR3000* series? Be aware that some models have multiple versions.

I think the Xiaomi AX3000T gets to be a bit cheaper, especially when on sale.
But it might be worth it to get a Cudy instead, given availability and installation support seem much better.

I have both WR3000 (v1) and WR3000P, runs great although I’ve replaced the PSUs because I’m not all that comfortable with very lightweight PSUs of questionable quality but that’s to be expected in this price range.
I’ve only ever seen the RD23 being sold officially in Europe, and all RD23 are supported AFAIK so that’s a non-issue.
Of course I would not buy from Aliexpress, that would almost guarantee I would get the RD03v2 that’s not supported. And buying used requires triple checking to be sure it’s not the v2 as well.
The same applies to Cudy: some of their models have two different versions. You might end up with only 16MB of flash memory or a processor that isn't supported by OpenWrt. The closest equivalent with 512MB of RAM and a USB port, the Cudy WR3000P, costs way more than €30. So, while they might be considered 'alternatives' on paper, they aren't comparable in terms of hardware. If the hardware matches, the price doesn't; and if the price matches, the hardware falls short.

Basically, you have to filter these Cudy models just as strictly as the Xiaomi AX3000T — if there are no letters in the model name, don't even consider buying them. And even then, you just have to wait and see if you get lucky. It's a total lottery!

Yes there are variations in what is presented as the same model. These variations involve the WAN 2.5 Gbs port and the memory cells. AFAIK they all have been solved and OpenWrt images can be installed on all supported WR3000'x' models.
It is legit to warn users of some potential issues, but not to scare them with false informations.
Scaremongering? These are the realities of life! Are you trying to tell me that all these router versions are now strictly MediaTek-based and don't exist on other chipsets? Or that 16MB of flash isn't complete garbage? OpenWrt didn't drop support for that amount of memory many versions ago just for fun. 'No need to scare people'? Maybe you'll also try to prove me wrong about the prices then? Or do you just have no one else to talk to?

Apart from the fact you seem to be mixing up 16Mbyte with 8Mbyte of flash, https://openwrt.org/supported_devices/864_warning I grabbed two (WR3000P) a while ago at ~40 EUR during a flash sale.
Looking at Idealo both S and H variants goes for around 40 EUR frequently.
But anwyays, if you want to use CMCC or Xiaomi instead then by all means go ahead.
Of course, you know better than I do what, who, or what I'm confusing. By all means — GO AHEAD! And yes, I’m sticking to my opinion: I’ll keep using what's cheaper and more profitable. I suggest you do the same!
Besides, you can never tell with you rich folk. If you wait a bit, you might catch a sale, if you're lucky... But then again, you could also use an iPhone to drive a nail if you're too lazy to go get a hammer. At this rate, we'll soon be talking ourselves into 200-Euro routers. I mean, they can be used just as well as the 30-Euro ones, right?

Nope.
Each device has two variations, which defer by the WAN port and the memory cells. Nevertheless both variations are now managed by the images. It would have been clearer from Cudy to rename these alternate variations with v2. All infos are in the wiki.
They don’t according to Cudy themselves and the wiki doesn’t any anything else either. WR3000 and WR3000E do however

The latest clearly states the memory chip issue, and the WAN port issue. You also have the commits solving them. Here are evidences.
You have yet to provide any information of the opposite and what issue? It’s support for flash ship and phy have been resolved for months in tree.
