Compatible, yes (well, you didn't specify the ethernet chipset)…

…but not a good choice, because of the power consumption (presumably around 90-130 watts idle for this hardware, more with high-end (of that vintage) graphics cards installed).


More modern -and carefully selected- x86_64 hardware in the 35-250 EUR/ USD price range can get along with 6-15 watts, while giving you (typically) up to four 1000BASE-T (or 2.5GBASE-T) ports and sufficient power to drive that. Compared to your 16 year old hardware, even in areas with cheap electricity, this investment quickly pays for itself (less than a year).
