What would be the settings for SQM on pppoe connection? The overhead etc.
I'm also confused on if when you switch to layer_cake it does the dscp marking itself or I need to set each device dscp marking differently on default it uses diffserv3 from what I have seen is that okay for the home setup I have it's mostly browsing, social media and sometimes I game there are other settings as well but I'm always stuck on the overhead
Lokely ethernet + pppoe. Kind of will not fix 100ms ltency anyway, maybe slightly relieve multiple concurrent users.
100ms away you can not measure frame mode of optical backbone cables.
Are you talking about the base latency (unloaded)?
Yep, with 100ms you can barely play any game, the maximum you can get out of QoS is that tv does not glitch when you start the game.
Got it! I'll see what I can do about that maybe its time to look into another provider
Can you tell me if these blocklists are good or I'll be having duplicates?
I'm gonna be using AGH with Cloudflare DoH
AdGuard DNS Popup Hosts filter
Dandelion Sprout's Anti Push Notifications
HaGeZi's Pro Blocklist
HaGeZi's Windows/Office Tracker Blocklist
Phishing URL Blocklist (PhishTank and OpenPhish)
HaGeZi's Badware Hoster Blocklist
HaGeZi's Threat Intelligence Feeds
uBlockâ filters â Badware risks
Malicious URL Blocklist (URLHaus)
You do not have RAM to run AGH
I do, I have like 350MB free when AGH is not enabled and when I do enable it and use it there is still plently left
Even after a day running AGH the lowest the RAM usage went was like 180MB
OK, dont complain in a week.
Sure let me see what happens because my router won't be running more then a day or two because there is alot of power outages here still let me know if the blocklists I have are good or should I remove some?
Idont know anything about local ad serving, you certainly need localized list to keep local add sellers out. emerging threats you can get under guide of "cloudflare family" for example.
Biggest AGH problem is massive tracking logs, by default going to /tmp , the more users you have the worse it gets.
I just need adblocking I don't really need the logs at all that's why I reduced it to 24 hours for logs and statistics and we have total 7 devices at home 4 are connected via 5ghz 1 is connected to 2.4ghz and 2 are connected via ethernet/lan
If it does become a problem I can just disable logs all together or if I do need it at some point use a usb and dump the logs there what do you think?
How should a guest network be set up?
The first method I used was creating an empty bridge, then creating the guest interface and selecting âbr-guestâ as the device. Inside the interface settings, I enabled âforce DNS serversâ instead of creating a specific firewall rule to allow DNS. I only created a rule to allow DHCP and set up a separate firewall zone called guest, allowing forwarding to the destination zone âwan.â That was basically it.
The second method I tried was creating the guest network using VLAN 8 and removing the separate br-guest bridge. Everything else stayed the same.
My question is: I read somewhere that youâre supposed to attach the VLAN to br-bridge and then select br-bridge in the guest interface settings. Which method is actually correct for properly separating the guest network from the main network?
It has to be bridge if you want to attach wifi.
Yes I will be enabling wifi as well that's the whole point of the guest network haha never really went in for seperating a lan for guest lan so first method it is?
So creating a vlan for it doesn't matter?
There are lighter options to block ads, I have no opinion which lists or products are better.
It's fine I just enabled two blocklists the hagezi pro and hagezi tif which when I was using adblock-lean suggested automatically depending on my ram
That sounds better .
qos would control added latency under load. 35/100ms is not under your control.
more representative test https://bufferbloat.libreqos.com/vh/ (I get A+ in waveform, B in this one)
Got it no worries then
