Today I had a problem with my Fritbox.
It seemd to loos the configuration and was not working, but I could ssh into it an reboot in fadtory settings, restore the config and it worked
But it was on version 22 and I wanted to upgrade it to 24.10.1 to get it in the last version.
I followed the instructions of the router page ( [OpenWrt Wiki] AVM FRITZ!Box 4040) to downlad and install 24.10 without preserving configuration (as switch settings have been changed and are not compatible).
It booted and then I tried to restore config settings. But I did not remember to remove the network setting correctly.
So it got bricked.
Now it boots, there is some flashing in the power lights, then it stops blinking for a while and then shutsdown, the light goes off.
I cannot get access to it.
I have tried the recommend factory resetting method pressing wps or wlan buttons (the router has that buttons but no reset).
No luck.
I have read about the resetting pressing them soon after reboot, when the power light begins flashin, it should quickly flash after that but it does not.
I have tried to do it continously while booting or waiting a bit after the first flashing sequence ends and the second begin.
None of my attemps have been able to recover it. The power light goes off after a while.
The router page redirects you to the general factory resetting page, so it seems there is no other method and that it should work.
Yes, the generic instructions should work. I usually press the button several times once the LED starts flashing. On this model, the Power LED should indicate the boot sequence while the Info LED should start flashing after the button press (I don't own a 4040 any more, so I'm not sure if I remember the details correctly).
There is no reset button on this model, but failsafe can usually be entered by pressing any button.
If you cannot get this to work, you can always restore to stock using the AVM recovery tool or you can reinstall OpenWrt from scratch.
I never managed to get in failsafe mode with my FB-4040, no matter which button I pressed.
If you have a serial console, you will know what is missing/wrong and could to a firstboot -y
Last resort would be the windows based AVM recovery tool available somewhere here
Thank you for your response. I am a bit desperate now. At least it was not the main rouuter and I have still access in some part of the home.
I have tried to press wps repetedly since I connect it to power, to push it just once after the first flashing sequence and the second, tried with wps and with wlan, nothing seems to work.
I have no access to the router, serial ttl port I suppose is inside it andd right now I don't have a usb-serial ttl device...
The AVM recovery might work... thanks I will see if I learn how to use it.
