i bought usb hub like this

you can check product detail from here https://sea.banggood.com/id/USB-Hub-7-Port-USB-2_0-Hi-Speed-Splitter-Adapter-with-DC-Power-Supply-p-943359.html?cur_warehouse=CN

when i use this usb hub from my laptop, i can confirm if it work as usb 2.0 by benchmarck my external hardisk

but when i plug it in my MR3020, it only detect as usb 1.0 hub
this is the log i can get

someone can help me how to make this usb hub working in 2.0 to my router?

anybody help please

it's like rare case till nobody ever experienced this :frowning:

I bought unbrand usb hub 3.0 and it can be use in usb 2.0 speed
my suspect about my case is that usb driver is not supported with openwrt driver. thats why it detected as usb 1.0 hub

I have the same error -71 problem on ramips MT7620 platform.
I wanted to use it as Smartphone Hotspot/Charger. When I connect the xiomi Redmi 5 plus, I get the following messages:

The attempt to enable tethering fails because the router USB driver attempts a power cycle for recovering errors: [ 2690.608025] usb usb1-port1: attempt power cycle. The glitch pushes the smartphone in a temporary disconnection status preventing the USB tethering to stay enabled. :triumph:
I disconnected the smartphone and I connected a 4 ports USB hub to the MT7620 router, the sequence of errors are the same:

The USB hub at least works in low speed mode USB 1.0. Then I connected the smartphone to an USB hub port. In this case there are no errors because there are no attempts to go in high speed mode:

Sun Jan 31 19:40:34 2021 kern.info kernel: [ 3073.295487] usb 2-1.4: new full-speed USB device number 24 using ohci-platform

No errors -> no attempts to recovery -> no USB power cycle -> no tethering disabling.
I was able to enable USB tethering from the smartphone behind the hub:

After setting usb0 as wan on the router I was able to access to internet .
An USB pen drive connected to the hub behaved like smartphone:

In this case the USB power cycle has no side effect (like USB tethering disabling).
I tried to remove the ohci package and I installed uhci package, in this case the router does not react at all at any connected device.
I am pretty sure the behaviour is lined to the router rather than specific perioheral.

Are you sure it's not an under powered USB port issue ?

I used an USB cable: with 2 plugs and 1 socket:

  1. Power plug
  2. Data plug
going to a single USB socket.
Same behaviour, I found an USB flash drive running in USB 2.0 mode.
    No voltage drop detected.
