[Help] BT Home hub 5 soldering/ installation

Hi everyone,

I am really new to here.

I can manage to boot into UART and showing cfg 04 by shoting boot_sel2 with GND.

However, tried to transfer "lede-lantiq-bthomehubv5a_ram-u-boot.asc" into the UART nothing happened (not showing anything) or just like this:

any ideas please?

In the past, I have successfully installed lede by tapping the wires to tx/rx points. But after updating the system, it won't boot into lede anymore with the log:

and here is my soldering, I know it's awful but it is my first soldercapture%203

The log seems OK to me. Does anything happen if you send an [Enter] click over your console connection? Can you connect to the router via a LAN port?

Garbled output may be because of incorrect serial connection. Have you tried reversing the Rx and Tx? Or maybe your UART settings /values are wrong.

Edit: Have a look at white wire, it looks like it maybe touching some other point also.

Unreliable GND connections in particular.

Hi thanks for replying.

During normal booting without shorting, the keyboard seems useless as it won't type in anything.
Has tried to connect via Lan, can get an ip address and ping through 192.168.1.1 which is the router but cannot ssh nor open luci in a browser.

Thanks again

Cheers mate,

Tried reversing as well but no luck. the white wire seems touching the above pin but actually not. In terms of the UART settings, what particular needs to pay attention to? I have just configured the serial line and speed. thanks

Thanks for pointing out. But if I am not getting it wrong, does this GND needs to connect to the GND on USB-TTL cable? Though soldered, I have just touched the blue wire to GND pin shortly, don't really know what's the soldered GND wire for?

Thanks

Yes exactly. This needs to be done in order to initiate the connection. If you are not connecting the GND wire at all to TTL adapter then it explains the problems in serial connection that you're facing.

Yes the shorting of boot_sel2 is only momentarily and shouldn't be permanent in any case.

If you can ping the router, there is a good chance it is alive. Perhaps, you can reset it to defaults? To do it, press a small red button (Reset) at the rear of the router with a sharp pin and hold it for ~30 seconds. The router will reset to defaults and hopefully allow you to ssh in.

Kernel 4.14 suggests you have installed a daily snapshot which may contains bugs.

fwiw, any reason why you didn't install one of the stable releases such as LEDE 17.01.6 or OpenWRT 18.06.2 ?
