Guide to configure AdGuard Home with OpenWrt when AdGuard Home is running in Proxmox

I have OpenWrt 23.05.5 running on a x86 appliance, I know I can install AdGuard Home together with OpenWrt, but I would like to install it separate in a Container (preferred option) or a VM running within Proxmox.

Is there a good guide that will explain how to configure OpenWrt to point to a DNS server running in Proxmox, and another guide on how to configure AdGuard Home ideally as a Container in Proxmox or a VM, if Container is not possible?

Thank you

Just configure your WAN DNS to you internal server instead of servers from DHCP. It doesn't matter were it runs as long as it's accessible on the network.

  • You mean on a VM running OpenWrt, correct?
  • To be clear, you've seen the normal AdGuard guide?

It's not clear why you would expect a different guide.

I meant ONLY Adguard Home running on Proxmox, and the current OpenWrt router pointing to that Adguard home instance running within a Container (preferred option) or VM within Proxmox, make sense?

Yep. Then this should work:

screen859

  • Place your AdGuard IP there.

Thank you, I ended up by using DHCP-Options and assigning via the DHCP server the IP address of the DNS Server directly to each client, instead of using the router's IP address as default and updating the WAN DNS.

Now, I am facing an issue with the IPv6 DNS, more details in this thread:

Sorry, I don't read off forum. I assume this is because you still are assigned IPv6 DNS.

My suggestion woud have ensured you didn't have to fix that. You shoud be able to edit your announced server on IPv6 in the interface setting.

There is an in forum as well:
