Good SIM router that will make me happy again (WPA3, Wi-Fi 5+, 50-70€)

Hello!

I'll get straight to the point: I asked the other day about the best-cheapest router, which I bought and am satisfied with it.

However, I occasionally travel, and I am looking for a model that will allow me to use a SIM card, and will be portable. Ideally, it would be able to be powered by plugging it into a laptop (?) or powerbank.

I was looking at the router offered by GL.iNet, but I think it is too expensive. I just want to put a SIM card in it and that's it, it doesn't need to have a built-in battery (which will lose its usefulness over time).

I also don't want to create a Frankenstein and compose some additional modem with the current GL.iNet router I have.

Well, and above all, I care about privacy - to make sure that the traffic from the card inserted into the router will be fully secured, for example, through a VPN. Chinese USB modems do not give me any satisfaction in this matter....

Thank you very much for your help!

Best regards,
Jakub

Old phone fits the bill, or a ZTE F50, but they don't run Openwrt.

You mean they can decrypt your VPN stream?

50 bucks - is it like monthly?

For this moment, the solution will be to attach an external USB modem to my GL.iNet router. For testing purposes, I tried the GL.iNet Collie router (GL-X300B), but it is much worse than the modern Beryl I have: it takes a long time to turn on and the signal is not very good either, despite the additional antennas. Beryl with an external modem wins.

In the future, I would like to build my own router with modem based on Raspberry Pi (or something similar). I don't know if this is possible, but we'll see.

Thank you!
