GL-MT300N looking to set up parental control

Hi all ...

Easy easy install of openwrt on the GL-MT300N i must say ...

I wanted to setup a guest wifi that had time of day limitations to keep my kids off the net during sleep times ...

I found a guide but my pages are different and i couldnt figure how to get further along ... i have two active wifi interfaces active with security and thats about as far as i got

If you block them at the router you have only partially solved the issue. This is because the kids can simply connect over 4G and bypass all your hard work. Making parental controls work demands a client side approach where you install the app on their phones/laptops. Something like Kaspersky Safe Kids for example which also provides content filtering

Its not within my control , the kids phone on cell data ... the X-wife controls that.

I want to make sure my kids are not up past 4am because i dont have parental controls on the wifi

But if you lockdown the wifi it wont have any effect if the kids are connecting to mobile data via 4G

From my personal experience kids are very motivated in bypassing parental controls

  • use the wifi from neighbors
  • use random mac address
  • switch to LTE
  • bypass Google Family Link restrictions
