GL.inet to ship the Flint 4

Seems like overkill but interesting. At least it is rumored to be mediatek SoC.

Processing is described as a quad-core MediaTek platform.

Some overkill stuff here that will increase cost and power consumption (screen, 10GbE, more Ethernet ports than necessary, overly large device compare to Flint 2). Nevertheless WiFi 7 with 3 radios and an SFP points towards Filogic 880 or maybe something newer. This is great news hope to see this hit the market in 2026.

To me the great news is that this might be their overkill model and something with perhaps just 4x GbE 2.5 running on a mediatek SoC with WiFi7 has yet to be introduced?

Isn’t this what the OpenWRT Two was going to be? Did Gl.iNet just take the design.

All tech goes up, nobody will make 9600 pstn modem cus other just made 10GbE home router.

The only way to justify the higher price would be for them to switch to 8 2.5G ports.

This looks very similar to the BPi R4 Pro. Two USXGMIIs, one for the combo 10G RJ45/SFP and the other to a 2.5G switch, along with the built-in 4-port gigabit switch wired up. I do wish that they would use a MxL86252 and expose a second 10G port, even if the bandwidth would be shared/split. Other thing is I hope it is a true 4x4 on 2.4G, 5G and 6G bands and not some crippled variant. The fact that it “only” has 6 antenna suggest it’ll be some weird design. If they want to make an overkill device, make it fully overkill.

I think the guy in the video made a mistake. I'm "sure" it's a 2x2x2.

I love how GL.Inet staff is inadvertently confirming that none of their products supports MLO and their marketing is BS after being called out:

Yea it’s interesting to now know that no one properly supports MLO, even the more expensive “enterprise” type stuff like Ubiquiti. Feels like I miss nothing hanging on to my wifi 6 (gl-mt6000 user here).

  • Newer generation of hardware.
  • Newer iteration of software and firmware, which will be developed and improved far more actively than older products.
  • 6Ghz band is vast and uncrowded.
  • Mesh works much better with tri-band.
  • Latency is much better, even for ax clients.

It might not necessarily be compelling for you. But the improvements from WiFi 7, even aside from MLO, are real.

That seems to do ok with MLO..

Do you have a reference to data supporting that claim, and what did they compare this to?

I have a WiFi 7 router running Openwrt. It has better latency in be mode than ax mode, and has better latency than my Wifi 6 routers running Openwrt.

If you want something more quantitative than that, you'll have to google for some comparisons.

Could you please post the output of iw phy0 info (assuming that radio is phy0, otherwise plöease replace with the correct phy).

How did you measure that, idle or as working latency? Currently I like to use crusader for such measurements (set to 30 seconds for the load periods and 10 seconds for grace period between the load epochs). And I am mostly interested in working latency.

Well, then I likely will run smack into marketing material from manufacturers and OEMs and measurements likely taking in "sterile" lab condition, I am more interested in working latency measurements from real world deployments.

Which router are you using with WiFi 7 running OpenWrt?
