GL-inet interface on Netgear R7800

Hello,

maybe a stupid question but I'm asking anyhow.

I was using a Netgear R-7800 router with Openwrt on it and after lots of configuration errors, I had it working for awhile.

Then I stumbled on the GL-inet GL-AX-1800 router and in a few hours, I had configured just like I like.

I configured the router with:

  • 2.4 and 5 GHz wifi, private and guest wifi

  • PIA VPN client for selected devices (Mac address) (at the same time as Wireguard server)

  • Wireguard VPN server for accessing home network from the internet

  • AdGuardHome with DNS over TLS

  • USB and/or Wireless tehtering

The interface of GL-inet is a pleasure to configure and is working (almost) out of the box.

Using the GL-inet router for awhile, I can see some hickups which I never had seen on my R-7800.

I guess the GL-ax1800 is not as powerful as the R-7800

So my question is, would it be possible to install the web interface of GL- inet on a R-7800 openwrt router? With an USB-stick as extroot for expanding memory.

thank you

Tom

If you have to ask, then the answer is most probably 'no'.

Things to check first, would be:

  • licensing!
as this is not fixable by third parties, this really is step one and the decision between go or no-go.
  • source code

After those two steps, it would be 'just' down to your abilities as a developers - but it would indeed be down to you, as no one else is likely to share your enthusiasm for this Frankenstein.
