[GL.Inet gl-s1300] Stuck with the old 'Chaos Calmer' OpenWrt

Hey I bought this router recently and I spent 3 hours following these steps over and over and I cant update Openwrt to the current version.

These are the files I installed using uboot

/openwrt$ sha256sum *
a1c37b24cc3f2c419ac570e18271ce096963c4bdbdfa433a577075d6165b95d8 openwrt-21.02.0-ipq40xx-generic-glinet_gl-s1300-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin

I was able to ssh into the router

sh root@192.168.8.1
root@192.168.8.1's password:

For those about to rock... (Chaos Calmer, e7067e3+r49254)

I tried to upgrade from the cli and it doesnt upgrade from chaos calmer after restarting

I ran

 sysupgrade -v openwrt-21.02.0-ipq40xx-generic-glinet_gl-s1300-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin

It seems like the internal memory is still in read only mode and even if I install the 'openwrt-21.02*' bin it doesnt make a difference. Is anyone using this router and had the same problems?

I also tried to force install it and it failed

Have you seen this?
https://docs.gl-inet.com/en/3/troubleshooting/debrick/

I understand your router may not be "bricked", but I have followed the instructions on this document to flash 21.02 and back to OEM firmware on my also not bricked GL-MV1000 with great results.

Hey thanks for the reply.

I have been using uboot (holding reset, 4 flashes, changing local ip, etc) to install the 2 packages (openwrt-21... and s1300-factory...).

One thing that may be different from the docs is that the glinet firmware updated yesterday and it's not the factory one anymore ( see https://docs.gl-inet.com/en/3/release_notes/gl-s1300/ ). I wonder if the 'factory to openwrt' image doesnt work with the latest version of the official firmware and I need to somehow downgrade it?

Otherwise Im running out of ideas, I can install firmwares/images, ssh into the router but the openwrt files just dont persist at all.

Hey anyone of you using the S1300 having this same issue as me? Unable to upgrade from 21.02.5 to 23.03.3 and 23.03.2 - #11 by mch

If this is your issue - that screen paste is not OpenWrt.

Otherwise, not sure of reviving the old thread.

If you're just seeking more help for your current issue, that thread is probably best to continue that discussion.

Yeah, you're right better to continue there, thanks anyway
