I have been using a GL.iNET Flint AX-1800 for a few years. I needed to expand the wifi range however, so I bought an OpenWrt One to use as an access point. I was wondering if anyone has thoughts on which device should be the main router and which should be the access point based on performance, or if it likely doesn't matter. It's hard for me to compare the speed/capabilities of each just by looking at their specs.
There isn't a clear cut answer to this…
The flint is a bit short on breath (ipq6000, 512 MB RAM), the OO is a tad short on ports for a router.
I would probably go with the OO as router, but again, not a clear cut decision.

There is flint2, but if you want to upgrade network - nanopi whichever is latest and modern at the moment is fast.
