GL.iNET Flint 3 (GL-BE9300) discussions

Nor do you really know if the headset properly supports WiFi 7.

There is no reason for a headset to support WiFi 7.

The bandwidth required for transmitting HiFi audio is not that huge. Even Bluetooth is enough.

The only reason that I can imagine for a head set to support WiFi over Bluetooth might be roaming or mesh availability of WiFi.

Audio is not bandwidth demanding at all and Bluetooth 5 has enough bandwidth and performance ineach other aspect.

Latency might be a problem in WiFi when transmitting audio from a video channel, I don't know for sure.

As the need of hearing your music with a headset from room to room or while moving around is not so common, I don't think it will be a priority for headset manufacturers.

The poster was very clearly referring to VR headsets, so audio + 2x video streams of some quality…

I just read the datasheet of Flint 3 from their website.
It seems not interested for me.
The Openwrt version is OpenWrt 23.05 (Kernel Version 5.4.213) which is customized by QC QSDK.

All devices use a vendor SDK, nothing new under the sun...

so seeing as GL's super early bird specials started today, did anyone pre-order?

I bought it in advance. It was cheaper than buying the flint 2. According to the website, it will ship early next month. I will probably leave it with the original firmware until openwrt development progresses.

I pre-ordered mine (Early Bird). I'm in the process of cancelling the order after I figured out that the WIFI6 portion is only AX3000, half of flint2's AX6000.

It should be called Flint 1.5 rather than Flint 3

@F.B.ex-TurrisTech got his hands on a Flint 3 a couple weeks ago. I'm curious if he has any feedback he'd be willing to share at this point.

FWIW, there is an interesting comment in that post that I'll drop here:

Alfie Zhao

COO/CTO at GL.iNet

[Mark B.] Yes Flint 3 does not beet Flint 2 in CPU performance but it is in the era of WiFi 7.

LOL, I can't hide, I see  it still sits on my bench, sadly...

There's a lot of enthusiasm and curiosity around the Flint 3, given the Flint 2's awesomeness. :star_struck:

No need to provide feedback if you don't have the time. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Let us know if you get a chance to connect serial connection and check the U-Boot

I think the Flint3 gonna fall short compared to the Flint2 as soon all the wrinkles on the software side get ironed on the Flint2
